The evolution of undergraduate economics education

Abstract

The economics discipline has evolved from humble beginnings to the current one, allowing educational institutions to offer undergraduate programs, including core and applied economics courses. Substantial contributions by many scholars and social, economic, political, and technological changes have altered the teaching and learning resources used and the pedagogy implemented in how the economics discipline is now taught. The discipline of economics and its undergraduate programs stand with their own identity and have now been standardized with slight variation across the globe. This chapter outlines the significant features of the evolution of the economics discipline over the past 200 years.
