Abstract (summary)

This open textbook is designed to support non-lawyer legal professionals, particularly paralegals and legal assistants in Alberta, in developing essential legal research skills. Unlike many existing resources, which are created with lawyers in mind and are often expensive or inaccessible, this textbook is tailored to the unique responsibilities of paralegals and legal assistants. These professionals frequently perform specialized tasks, including conducting legal research, sometimes with limited formal training or direct supervision. By providing practical, accessible, and role-specific guidance, this resource aims to strengthen their capacity to contribute effectively to their workplaces and to the broader legal community.
