Gleaves et al (see record 1999-03012-003 ) which purported to refute the sociocognitive model (SCM) of dissociative identity disorder by showing that many of the symptoms associated with dissociative identity disorder are displayed by patients before entering therapy or prior to diagnosis. The present authors argue that Gleaves et al's results do not refute the SCM and are in fact supportive of that model.
