Fifty articles were selected on Facebook from five Canadian national news channels, CBC News, CTV, Global News, Huffington Post, and The Globe and Mail. These were selected based on two keywords: coronavirus and COVID-19. Eight thematic categories were established based on keywords. The eight categories were: (1) support, (2) control, (3) health, (4) economy, (5) other countries, (6) government, (7) explanation, (8) industry. The most prevalent themes were government (23%) and health (23%).
