This Latin translation of Plutarch’s Life of Dion was made by Guarino Guarini of Verona (1374-1460), who studied Greek in Constantinople under Manuel Chrysoloras (ca. 1350-1415) and became preeminent among one of the first generations to revive the reading of Greek in Italy. It exemplifies the development of the tools and methods that made the corpus of Greek literature available again to literate westerners.
