This paper looks at some aspects of the parasitic organism Schistosoma mansoni, including the lifecycle, infection mechanism and the implications of these features for humans. The symptoms caused by infection, both acute and chronic are discussed. Next, a review of some recent studies regarding vaccine development, efforts to mitigate drug resistant properties of the organism and current treatment efficacy is included. Finally, the impact of humans on the spread of S.mansoni is also discussed, with particular emphasis on the spread in Egypt via the construction of the Aswan Dam.299.91KBPDFenAll Rights ReservedparasitesSchistosoma mansoniOur success was no fluke: the life and times of Schistosoma mansoniStudent Report
