Abstract (summary)
Lots of Fun at ‘Finnegans Wake’, the title of Finn Fordham’s new introduction to that most thorny of James Joyce’s texts, invokes any image but that of a reader surrounded by the multiple concordances, glosses, and lists of annotations spawned by decades of scholarship on the novel. The key to Fordham’s fun is in understanding how writing the Wake over sixteen years was, for Joyce, as frustratingly involved as it is for us to read the novel today.
