Abstract (summary)
As Bass has stated, leadership is a universal phenomenon. It is important for each person to create their own definition of leadership and then try to demonstrate personal actions that are consistent with their leadership definition, especially in a constantly changing business environment. To create a foundation of understanding of leadership, this chapter provides an overview of the definitions of leadership, the historical evolution of leadership, and the classification of leadership theories. Although the focus of the book is on transformational leadership and change, it is necessary to provide an easy-to-use reference for leadership styles because it places the specific leadership approaches in their appropriate context.
